Pulvinar and pubic cartilage measurements to refine universal ultrasound screening for developmental dysplasia of the hip: Data from 1896 infant hips

•Universal screening of developmental dysplasia of the hip can lead to overtreatment.•Pubofemoral distance (PFD) ultrasound measurement is a way to screen hip dysplasia.•PFD is composed of the pubic cartilage and the pulvinar.•Thick cartilage >2,39 mm with pulvinar <4,2 mm is consider as a false positive result.•Identifying false-positive results can prevent overtreatment.
