摘要
•Traumatic hip dislocation in the paediatric population is a rare injury and the force required to cause a hip dislocation seems to increase with age.•To reduce the risk of avascular necrosis of the femoral head, concentric hip reduction should be achieved within the first 6 hours.•Attempts for closed reduction should be performed in an operating theatre with the use of an image intensifier to confirm concentric reduction. If closed reduction fails, open reduction is required.•Post-reduction MRI is an important adjunct to recognize associated soft tissue injuries.•Follow up of patients should continue for 2 years as a minimum to help detect avascular necrosis of the femoral head.
