Novel Quinolinyl - Sulphonamide Hybrid Schiff Bases As Potent Radical Scavengers To Combat Oxidative Stress

Eight novel quinolinyl-sulphonamide based Schiff bases have been prepared by condensation of substituted 2-chloroquinoline-3-carbaldehydes with sulphonamide substituted benzoic acid hydrazides. Structures of the Schiff bases have been confirmed by spectral techniques including FT-IR, H-1-NMR, (CNMR)-C-13, and mass spectroscopies. The purity of compounds has been established by elemental analysis. Free-radical scavenging activity of these compounds has been carried out by DPPH assay that showed these compounds to be effective radical scavengers. The compounds 7a, 7b, 7d, 7f and 7h have exhibited radical scavenging activity better than the reference compound BHT.
