Naked mole rat iPSCs and their noncanonical features: a novel tool for aging research

Abstract The naked mole rat (NMR; Heterocephalus glaber) is an emerging model organism for studies on aging and cancer due to its exceptional longevity and cancer resistance. Here, we review recent advances in the generation of NMR induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and discuss methods that have been developed to achieve NMR cell reprogramming. In addition, we provide an overview of the characteristics of NMR iPSCs, including their pluripotency and several noncanonical features. Finally, we discuss the future utility of these cells for biomedical purposes.
