Simultaneous acquisition of near infrared image of hand vein and pulse for liveness dorsal hand vein identification

•A living dorsal hand vein identification method based on simultaneously acquisition near infrared image of dorsal hand vein and pulse and recognition algorithm is proposed.•A liveness detection method based on the periodicity of pulse and the number of heart rates is proposed, which eliminates the safety hazards of using the prosthesis.•Through the position correction algorithm, combing with PLBP and the parameter optimized SVM algorithm, the recognition accuracy reaches 99.33%.
