Tuning morphology of sulfadiazine through phase transformation of two novel solvates

•The crystal structures of two novel solvates of sulfadiazine were determined and analyzed.•The processes of the rapid solvent-mediated phase transformations in water were investigated.•The products obtained by phase transformation are aggregated crystals with well-defined morphology.•The product has high bulk density.
