•The Erlian Basin is characterized by a high geothermal gradient and heat flow.•High anomalous zones occur in the Manite, Uliastai, and Chuanjing Depressions.•High heat flow values are consistent with the distribution of intrusive bodies.•The mechanism relates to the subduction and rollback of the Pacific Plate.
