Synergistic neuroprotective effects of Fingolimod and mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis

•Fingolimod is a common drug used for Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis.•The safety and beneficial effects of MSC in Multiple Sclerosis is becoming more established and well documented in clinical trials.•Combined treatment of Fingolimod and MSC in the EAE model showed a significant beneficial clinical and neuroprotective effects.•The use of Fingolimod promote the biological activity and survival of MSC and do not impair its functionality.
