摘要
Introduction: The recurrence of incisional hernias after surgical correction may have a prevalence as high as 30 % depending on the technique used and has a great impact on their quality of life. Nevertheless, evidence has shown that posterior component separation surgery can reduce hernia recurrence, with a prevalence reported between 3 and 7 %. Methodology and objective: Ambispective analytical cross-sectional study with the aim of evaluates associated factors to hernia recurrences in 83 patients undergoing posterior component separation surgeries with Rives Stoppa and resection of transverse muscle techniques. Results: 47 % patients were males and the median patients' age was 56 years old. The 61.4 % had baseline comorbidities and the median body mass index was 28 kg/m(2). A prevalence of hernia recurrence of 7.2 % was found. The main associated factors were a hernia defect with a width and size of at least 15 cm (p = 0.034) and 250 cm(2) (p = 0.04) respectively, presence of deep operative site infection in the postoperative period (p = 0.015) and reintervention surgery for different complications (p = 0.002). Conclusion: In order to reduce the recurrences of incisional hernias after component separation surgeries, it is necessary to recognize the main associated factors, so they can be controlled by implementing the required measures.
