•Hierarchical coralline structure Ni3S5•3H2O/Ni(OH)2/Mo4O11 composites were prepared.•The Ni-Mo-O-S electrode showed a high specific capacitance of 3714.4 F/g.•The asymmetric supercapacitor possessed high specific energy and superior cycling stability.
