We evaluate the impact of atmospheric absorption on the WDM capacity for ground-satellite optical links. At optimum geostationary satellite longitude over Europe, we maximise the capacity by using nonuniformly distributed channels and digital equalization; we obtain 10% capacity increase against a uniform distribution.
