In vivo β-carotene skin permeation modulated by Nanostructured Lipid Carriers

•Nanostructured Lipid Carriers (NLC) were investigated in vivo to promote β-carotene skin permeation.•Unlike β-carotene and microparticles, the penetration depth of nanoparticles was sizedependent.•The smallest size (about 200 nm) penetrated more deeply into the stratum corneum (SC) barrier.•The goal of providing β-carotene actions against oxidative damages beyond the SC could be envisaged.
