Evolutionary Conservation of Structural and Functional Coupling between the BRM AT-Hook and Bromodomain

•The BAF complex contains multiple regulatory histone/DNA binding domains of unknown activity.•Several elements in the BRG1/BRM AT-hook-bromodomain are conserved over ~1 billion years.•The conserved DNA binding elements make multi-valent contacts with DNA.•The conserved linker structurally couples the AT-hook and bromodomain inducing a unique bound state.
