Fast determination of amphetamine-type stimulants and synthetic cathinones in whole blood samples using protein precipitation and LC-MS/MS

•This work was focused on 11 psychoactive substances, namely amphetamine-type stimulants and synthetic cathinones.•A method based on PPT-LC-MS/MS was developed to quantify these substances in whole blood samples.•The developed method presents good linearity, precision and recoveries, besides low LOQ.•The method can be easily deployed in toxicology and forensic laboratories.
