Digital and Conventional Approach for the Treatment of Severe Anterior Dental Wear in a Type 2 Diabetes Patient

Background and aims:Nowadays, due to a multitude of physical and psychological factors, more and more patients present dental wear. The overlapping of metabolic disorders often lead to oral effects thatgenerate major functional and esthetic inadvertencies, which can prove challenging even to an experienced clinician.\r\nCase report:This case report presents a Type 2 diabetes senior female patient with severe anterior dental wear associated with poor oral hygiene, periodontal disease and tooth loss in the posterior arches. After general health evaluation, surgical, periodontal and endodontic treatments wereconducted, followed by a combined prosthodontic rehabilitation treatment plan which involved conventional and digital fabricated restorations.\r\nConclusions:Clinical results showed that the esthetic and functional outcome of the treatment was achieved even in the case of combining the two methods (digital and conventional) of fabricating dental restorations and the so called  sixth complication of diabetes, the  periodontal disease was diminished, due to an optimal hygiene allowed by the design of the restorations.\r\nKeywords:type 2 diabetes, severe dental wear, CAD/CAM restorations.
