摘要

•Oral swabs are an easy, self-collection method for measuring EBV DNA and antibodies.•Oral swabs can be dried within 5 days without affecting positivity.•EBV-DNA positivity was associated with all symptom scores in the previous 3 to 6 months.•Oral swabs are potentially useful for surveillance of past and recent EBV infection, and in clinical microbiology as a tool for noninvasive surveillance testing.
