Liquid film thickness measurements on a plate based on brightness curve analysis with acute PLIF method

•Static and moving liquid film thicknesses on a plate are measured with acute PLIF.•Ray-tracing approach is introduced to simulate the measured brightness curves.•Main fluorescence sources are derived for the three regions on brightness curves.•Total width of two decreasing regions is used to evaluate the liquid film thickness.
