Acute and long-term effects of saxagliptin on post-prandial glycemic response in obese patients with impaired glucose tolerance

•In patients with impaired glucose tolerance saxagliptin lowers post-meal glucose.•Post-meal glucose and glucose variability are lowered by the first treatment day.•After 12-weeks of saxagliptin 90% of the patients recover normal glucose tolerance.•Lower post-meal glucose after the first tablet predicts glucose tolerance recovery.
