Social support dimensions predict parental outcomes in a Spanish early intervention program for positive parenting

•Some dimensions of parental support were associated with better parenting program results.•Informal support is more effective at changing child-rearing attitudes than formal support.•Formal support predicts reduced parental stress.•Adequate provision of social support may be an effective way to promote positive parenting and prevent child maltreatment.
