A cascade nanosecond pulse generator based on two-stage DSRDs*

DSRD is a powerful semiconductor opening switch for nanosecond high voltage pulse generation. In this paper, a cascade pulse generator based on two-stage DSRDs was presented and tested on a $50 \Omega$ load. The dependence of the output parameters on the charging voltage is discussed. The results show that with the increase of the charging voltage, the output voltage rise rate increases, up to 4.33 kV/ns, while the rise time is almost the same ∼1ns. The maximum overvoltage factor is 7.86 obtained under 400 V charging voltage. Repetitive operation of the generator at 500Hz was also carried out. In this condition, the deviation of the output voltage amplitude is less than 0.5%, and the jitter of the whole generator is no more than 130 ps.
