•A new power management method is introduced to dispatch wind-HESS system.•Delivering a scheduled wind power on an hourly scale to TSO with lower ESS capacity.•Data reduction by integrating GA and SOM clustering methods based DWT coefficients.•HESS optimal sizing and selection are done by solving a linearized model with MILP.•Predicting the wind power by neural network and implementing short-term power management.
