A systematic review of technological approaches for autism spectrum disorder assessment in children: Implications for the COVID-19 pandemic

•Screening and diagnostic assessments for autism are not always available to families remotely.•Due to the limitations of the pandemic, there is strong need for remote assessments.•Novel telehealth approaches can be used to address this barrier.•The current literature shows strong support for video, phone, and online screening and diagnostic assessment tools.•Telehealth may be a feasible approach to increase accessibility of services during a pandemic.
