European eel restocking programs based on wild-caught glass eels: Feasibility of quarantine stage compatible with implementation of prophylactic measures prior to scheduled reintroduction to the wild

•Glass eels entering freshwater are mainly free of specific pathogens.•15-day pre-release quarantine period does not affect negatively glass eels.•Such quarantine should improve feasibility, efficacy and biosafety of eel restocking.•Pre-release quarantine is compatible with prophylactic and therapeutic treatments.
