Design and fabrication of nano-engineered electrospun filter media with cellulose nanocrystal for toluene adsorption from indoor air

•Cellulose nanocrystal (CNCs) are environment-friendly nanofillers for electrospun nanofibers.•CNC-Polyamide 6 (PA-6) composite nanofiber air filters were fabricated by using the electrospinning method.•Effect of nanofiber composition on both mechanical properties and toluene adsorption performance were examined.•Composite nanofiber filters reached to 50% toluene adsorption after 45 min.
