Preparation of non-toxic nano-emulsions based on a classical and promising Brazilian plant species through a low-energy concept

•Ecofriendly nano-emulsions had a non-food bioactive volatile oil of sucupira-branca.•Avoidance of release of more hydrophilic compounds may triggered the stabilization.•Stable behavior was probably due to compositional ripening and sorbitan trioleate.•An optimal nano-emulsion was stable for 540 days and very promising.•Chemistry of phytocolloids, an open field for industry, will grow in the next years.
