An Assessment of Software Reliability Growth Model and Optimal Release Policy with Testing Effort under Fuzzy Environment

Testing-effort based software reliability growth model (SRGM) has been broadly accepted as well as applied by the software engineers for the development of reliable software. However, there are uncertainties involved in estimated parameters of each SRGM with testing-effort function (TEF). In this paper, we investigate how to model the uncertainties involved in SRGM’s parameters under imperfect-debugging for triangular fuzzy number. We propose a software reliability modelling and optimal release police with Exponential-Weibull testing-effort (EWTEF) with imperfect debugging under fuzzy paradigm. The parameters of TEF and SRGM are evaluated using least square estimation (LSE) and then we consider the uncertainties involved in estimated TEF and SRGM’s parameters by using triangular fuzzy number. We calculate fuzzy reliability and total cost of software at different spreads for proposed SRGM. We compare the experimental results with other existing results from previous research. It is shown that under fuzzy paradigm, the proposed model gives a reasonable predictive capability of software reliability and total software cost.
