摘要
Introduction: The prevalence of MRSA in patients with CF has risen in recent years with potentially harmful effects on lung function and disease progress. Aims and Objectives: We aimed to determine predictors of eradication failure. Methods: 309 patients were involved in the study. All sputum cultures collected between 2015-2019 were reviewed. Clinical findings, demographics and eradication regimens were compared retrospectively. Results: The mean age of patients at first MRSA isolation was 9,32 ± 5,79. 22 patients out of 61 positive MRSA cultures (36,1) were eradicated. Pancreatic insufficiency was the only statistically significant predictor of MRSA eradication failure (OR=0,179 p=0,027). Sex, age, age at diagnosis, anthropometric measurements, microbial resistance of pathogen, FEV1, biliary-hepatic disease, dornase alfa or inhaled corticosteroid use, hospitalization and exacerbation rate and ΔF508 mutation were not statistically significant as a predictor. Conclusions: There is limited data investigating morbidity and mortality of chronic MRSA infection. This study has shown that pancreatic insufficiency is one of the predictors of eradication failure. Further prospective studies should be done to determine the best treatment option and impact of MRSA on disease progress.
