Studies on structural properties, luminescence behavior and zeta potential of Dy3+ doped alkaline earth ortho-silicate phosphors

•The single phase (orthorhombic) Sr2SiO4:Dy3+ phosphor was synthesized.•The phosphors show two emission bands located at 477 nm and 573 nm in the blue and yellow region respectively.•The prepared phosphor is better candidate for white light emitting applications.•Natures of traps are investigated through thermoluminescence studies.•It can be applicable to characterization of materials, archeological, geological dating.
