Exploring future challenges for big data in the humanitarian domain

•Integration challenges of analysing multiple humanitarian datasets are examined.•Effective integration of diverse datasets is a determinant of value from big data.•This value is difficult to achieve as data integration is not an a priori concern.•A framework of research propositions (RPs) is offered to meet UN policy imperatives.•RPs cover: data governance; veracity; privacy vs value; transparency; interaction.
