Synthesis, crystal structure and photocatalytic properties of two new coordination polymers based on flexible dicarboxylate and 1,1′-(1,4-butanediyl)bis(imidazole) ligands

•Through design, two new coordination complexes were obtained.•The photocatalytic results demonstrated that both of them displayed efficient performances to degrade MV.•The mechanism of photocatalytic behaviour has been proposed.
