Effect of feed restriction on performance, carcass yield and nitrogen and energy balance in growing rabbits

•Mortality of growing rabbits was not reduced by any type of restriction.•80% restriction and later ad libitum had similar growth rate than control group.•70% restriction was the only treatment that reduced the cold carcass weight.•Urinary nitrogen losses and energy+heat increment losses decreased with restriction.
