The classic advection-dispersion model, however, fails to reproduce observed solute migration in highly heterogeneous aquifers. The use of hydrogeophysics to non(minimally)-invasively observe in-situ small-scale transport behavior is critical to improving solute transport conceptual models for highly heterogeneous aquifers. Estimation of small-scale transport features, however, requires fine spatial discretization that increases exponentially the dimensionality of the problem. We present a process-based proxy-modeling approach to approximate high-resolution environmental models. The strategy involves two levels of approximations: 1) a coarser spatial discretization of the geophysical forward problem, and 2) a model-order-reduction of the inverse problem. We demonstrate the strategy with a numerical geoelectrical imaging of a 3D solute plume.Presentation date: Wednesday, October 14, 2020Session Start Time: 1:50 PMPresentation Time: 4:45 PMLocation: 361APresentation Type: OralKeywords: electrical/resistivity, environmental, inversion, groundwater, decompositionPermalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/segam2020-3428367.1FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2020ISSN (print):1052-3812 ISSN (online):1949-4645Copyright: 2020 Pages: 3887 publication data© 2020 Published in electronic format with permission by the Society of Exploration GeophysicistsPublisher:Society of Exploration Geophysicists HistoryPublished Online: 30 Sep 2020 CITATION INFORMATION Erasmus K.
