Secured Wireless Network for Aircraft Intra Communication

Aviation industry has been looking at wireless technology as an option to establish data network for avionics to reduce the weight and in turn reduce operational and maintenance costs. However, introducing the wireless network in an aircraft brings to the front, the issue of security. Intra communication using wireless can make aircraft systems vulnerable to manipulations by an adversary. Aviation regulatory bodies have already brought out that network security should be identified and needs to be addressed. Security issues in an Avionics Wireless Network (AWN) and a modified Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm, based on time synchronisation, is brought out in the paper.
