•Gol-e-Gohar iron ore district is of Kiruna type.•Host rocks include meta-sedimentary rocks, meta-basalt and meta-granite.•O and Fe isotopes of magnetite indicate a magmatic-hydrothermal (high-T) origin.•The Gol-e-Gohar represents a disrupted fragment of the Kashmar-Kerman arcent.
