•Ginsenoside F1 was determined as the representative constituent of SGB121.•SGB121 reversed scopolamine-induced neurotoxicity in SH-SY5Y cells.•SGB121 significantly recovered scopolamine-induced cognitive deficits in ICR mice.•SGB121-induced memory improvements were mediated by ERK/CREB/BDNF signaling pathway.
