Contrasting communications of sustainability science in the media coverage of palm oil agriculture on tropical peatlands in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore

•The article analyses the media portrayal of peatland agricultural practices.•We focus on the narratives surrounding the 2016 International Peat Congress.•It finds four denialist narratives in defending existing unsustainable practices.•These frames bear resemblance to climate change denialism.
