Herpes simplex virus (HSV) encephalitis is the most common sporadic viral encephalitis and has been associated with refractory epilepsy. Reactivation of HSV after epilepsy surgery is an infrequent and life-threatening complication that requires high clinical suspicion for early diagnosis and treatment.
