Structural diversity and photocatalytic properties of two new coordination polymers based on a semi-rigid tetracarboxylate ligand

•Two different structural frameworks have been designed.•Photocatalytic studies show that 1 and 2 exhibits efficient degradation activity of organic dye methyl violet.•The possible mechanism of the photocatalytic property has been deduced.
