摘要
We respond here to Letter to the Editor [add reference to: AAS-20-0496, Letter from Sakata and Orr]. concerning "Residual volatile anesthetics after workstation preparation and activated charcoal filtration." We appreciate the comments of Sakata and Orr on behalf of the manufacturer of the activated charcoal filter we used in our study of ways to prepare anesthesia machines for patients susceptible to malignant hyperthermia We accurately reported that an activated charcoal filter placed at the Y-piece effectively protects the patient from residual volatile anesthetics arising from the anesthesia machine. But we agree that our results do not apply to a malignant hyperthermia crisis during which the patient, rather than the anesthesia machine, is the primary source of residual volatile anesthetics.
