Antifungal metabolites from endophytic fungus Fusarium verticillioides strain WF18

•A new polyketide metabolite was purified and unambiguously characterized.•The absolute configuration of the new compound is found to be 3S.•All isolated compounds showed a pronounced antifungal activity.•This study is an example of crosstalks between a host plant and its endophytes.
