Influence of inlet and outlet placement on the hydrodynamics of culture tanks for Atlantic salmon

•Hydrodynamics of a recirculating aquaculture tank is studied using Eulerian-Lagrangian method.•Four combinations of inlet and outlet locations are examined for flowfield and particle motion.•Inlet pipe near the corner wall exhibits 29% lesser drag compared to that near the sidewall.•Bottom outlet creates better performance than elevated drain in terms of velocity and particle flushing.
