BACKGROUND:Brodie abscess is a form of circumscribed sub-acute osteomyelitis. Benjamin Brodie, a British surgeon first described subacute osteomyelitis in 1832 with a pus-filled cavity, vascularized wall and hard sclerotic surrounding bone. In 1951, Wiles suggested Brodie abscesses as a particular form of osteomyelitis that follows an acute attack, when the virulence of the pathogen and the resistance of the host are evenly balanced. Kirkaldy-Willis from East-Africa classified it radiologically and subsequently modified by Roberts in 1973. Non-specific pain and swelling, lack of inciting trauma and systemic symptoms makes it difficult to diagnose in pediatric population.
