Method using L-kurtosis and enhanced clustering-based segmentation to detect faults in axial piston pumps

•An improved clustering-based segmentation method is proposed using L-kurtosis.•The two-cycle method is suitable to detect faults in natural periodic impulses.•Experiment investigations show the performance of the present method.
