Determination Of Trace Anions In Heavy Metal Salt Reagents Using An Ion Chromatograph Coupled With An In-Line Metal Elimination Device

The determination of anions in heavy metal salt reagents using an ion chromatograph coupled with a metal removal device packed with a cation-exchange resin was examined. The present system was applied to the determination of some anions in cobalt chloride hexahydrate and zinc acetate dihydrate. The bromide, nitrate and sulfate ion were detected from the reagent-grade cobalt chloride hexahydrate, and the quantified values were 14.4 mu g L-1, 8.35 mu g L-1 and 20.0 mu g L-1, respectively. Also, the relative standard deviations (RSD, n = 5) for the quantitative values were 1.51 %, 1.85 % and 1.09 %, respectively. On the other hand, the anions in zinc acetate dihydrate could not be quantified because of its low anion concentration, but good spiked recovery rates for the anions were obtained except for the chloride ion. The presented system will be applied as a method for the determination and testing of anions in the samples containing heavy metal ions at high concentration, such as metal salt reagents and plating solutions.
