Penetration Loss into Train Wagons: Q-factor Measurements

The Q-factor of a train wagon plays a significant role in calculation of EM penetration loss into the wagon. It can also be used as an alternative metric indicating richness of the multipath propagation inside a wagon. In this paper, we present the results of Q-factor measurements for similar wagons equipped with two different RF-friendly windowpanes. The measurement results show that inside the wagons with RF-friendly windowpanes, we have a non-rich multipath environment. This finding indicates that modern wireless communication systems cannot make best use of spatial multiplexing.
