Urban Responsibility in the Context of Environmental Changes in the Arab Region

The paper addresses urban responsibility and environmental changes with emphasis on impact of climate change on Arab cities, innovative green technologies and cleaner production practices, adaptive urban environmental management, and sustainable lifestyles and consumption patterns in urban communities. The paper includes an outlook of urban problems and perceptions of responsibility in the Arab countries; perspective on urban environmental management in Arab metropolitan centers; inter-linkages of urbanization, poverty, employment and environment; policy responses to urbanization and environmental changes; and governmentality in urban policy of the Arab region. The paper concludes that the intertwining of urban problems and environmental challenges in the Arab region call for innovative urban development approaches and policies that involve researchers, policy actors, communities and governments.
