摘要
In the present research work crude methanolic extracts of Viola canescens and Vicatia coniifolia were subjected to phytochemical screening, antimicrobial and free radical scavenging activities. Phytochemical screening has revealed the presence of reducing sugars, steroids, cardiac glycosides and tannins in both species while Viola conescens contains terpenoids in addition. The crude methanolic extracts demonstrated significant antimicrobial properties against all the selected bacterial and fungal strains. A significant DPPH free radical scavenging activity was observed in the methanolic extract of Viola canescens (90.55%) and Vicatia coniifolia (70.33%) at the conc. of 100 mu/ml. The current results suggested that V. canescens and V. coniifolia contain potential secondary metabolites which are responsible for these pharmacological activities.
