The Impact of Rapid Infuser Use on the Platelet Count, Platelet Function, and Hemostatic Potential of Whole Blood

•Rapid infusers use filters, pumps, and heat exchangers to infuse blood products.•Rapid infusers are contraindicated for transfusion of platelets and cryoprecipitate.•Rapid infusers decrease the platelet count of whole blood but not platelet function.•Rapid infusers actually increase whole blood thrombin generation and potential.•Overall hemostatic potential of whole blood is not decreased by rapid infusers.
