Rapid and simple colorimetric loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for the detection of Bovine alphaherpesvirus 1

•Newly designed LAMP primers target the gene of the tegument protein V67.•The assay delivers results after 8−30 min by changing color from pink to yellow.•New LAMP primers deliver results significantly faster than primers published so far.•The detection limit of the LAMP assay was found to be 14 copies/μl.•Simple DNA precipitation permits low-cost application in resource-limited settings.
