Dirofilaria infections in animals: An epidemiological update

An epidemiological update of canine and feline Dirofilaria infections in Europe was done. A seasonal transmission model based on the environmental heat required by larvae to complete their development into the mosquito was applied for both Dirofilaria species and a Geographic Information System model based on thermal regimens was constructed to assess the potential spreading of filarial infections in Europe.
